A collection of 41 short, simple narratives in which the protagonists are human beings. The central theme of each myth is the transformation of people into animals, plants, or other beings, who either disappear completely or become immortal through the intervention of the gods. More generally, the divine presence is portrayed as in the ancient Greek world, through the anthropomorphism of the gods and their passions, which often transform humans, out of pity or as a curse.
