Misleading information and false news on the internet regarding health issues represent a significant social problem, posing risks to public health and undermining the public's trust in the credibility of scientific institutions and the functioning of state authorities.
This was the reason why the Laboratory of Medical Law and Bioethics Studies at the Faculty of Law of AUTh decided to organize a conference, inviting all involved stakeholders to participate in a dialogue.
The conference, titled "Misinformation and Fake News on Health Topics," took place on December 3, 2025, at the Faculty of Law of AUTh, with speakers including members of the Laboratory, fact-checkers, and individuals from journalism and media. The event was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students from both the Law School and other departments at AUTh, as well as many members of the general public with no direct university affiliation. This variety of attendees contributed to a meaningful and substantive discussion after the presentations concluded.
This volume includes all the presentations made at the event and highlights the need for a serious interdisciplinary dialogue to, on the one hand, enhance public awareness of the dangers associated with the spread of false news on health topics, and on the other hand, to develop an institutional framework that allows for the detection of dangerous publications and their prompt management.
