The PRS SE Silver Sky Rosewood Trad Blue is a double-cutaway solid-body electric guitar designed in close collaboration with John Mayer. Its body is made from solid poplar and features a gloss finish. The bolt-on neck is crafted from maple with the custom vintage 635JM profile, paired with a rosewood fingerboard with an 8.5-inch radius, 22 frets, and traditional PRS Small Birds inlays. Basic Features
Poplar Body Construction & 635JM Ergonomics
The body of the instrument is made from solid poplar (Solid Poplar), a wood that offers a balanced tonal response, low overall weight, and consistent frequency characteristics across the entire spectrum. Its shape follows the classic comfort contours of the Silver Sky series, incorporating a specially sculpted scoop on the lower side of the cutaway that allows the palm to move freely when playing in the higher positions on the fretboard. The glossy Trad Blue finish protects the instrument’s surface from external elements and mechanical wear, while maintaining a clean vintage aesthetic alongside the multi-ply pickguard.
635JM Maple Neck & Rosewood Fingerboard
The neck is made from a single piece of maple and shaped to the distinctive 635JM profile, based on the dimensions of historic vintage instruments from 1963–1964. The genuine rosewood (Rosewood) fingerboard features the authentic 8.5" (216 mm) radius and a 25.5" (648 mm) scale length, offering natural thumb support and comfort when playing chords and bends. It is fitted with 22 vintage-spec frets and the distinctive PRS Small Birds inlays, while the 41.45 mm nut width ensures smooth, consistent string movement.
Electronics 635JM "S" & Hardware Mounting System
The electrical circuit uses three PRS 635JM "S" single-coil pickups, designed to reproduce rounded highs without harshness, full low frequencies, and distinctive vintage clarity. The 5-way selector provides access to all the classic combinations, while Tone 2 controls the bridge pickup for immediate frequency balancing. The hardware includes a 2-Point Steel Tremolo with individual stamped saddles, mounted directly to the body and paired with Vintage-Style tuners for stable intonation and reliable tuning.
