The latest review of the Deviate pure nitro is obviously planted, because it refers to a clearly higher-than-expected weight. Their weight, OBJECTIVELY, based on laboratory results, is lower than the figure reported by Puma, at 215g, in the specific size in which RunRepeat tests its shoes, as well as in a specific size that companies use when advertising them! Anyway, I may prefer the Adidas Evo SL, but for someone who needs a higher drop, these particular Deviate pure or the Velocity are better, since they have a higher drop and the latter also has a lower stack height, so each caters to different needs while being very close in quality—each one is top-notch

Nothing special, they’re simply an option if you’re looking for shoes without a plate and without the huge protection of the oversized soles that have been fashionable lately. They feel much heavier when running than their specifications suggest, which was also one of the reasons I chose them as an alternative option (Saucony Ride).

Many of the newer models give you the feeling that they have something special, e.g. that trampoline-like sensation. This particular model doesn’t have that “wow” factor. But it does have something rare. It is perfect (in the sense that it has no weak points/flaws). Its category is a “traditional” shoe for everyday training runs. That means it doesn’t have a plate that makes it stiff, it gives you some ground feel and makes you work a bit too, to get stronger. What the Nike Pegasus is supposed to be, for example. But in a modern version, Nike has fallen behind. So:

It has a perfect fit, hugging the foot like a glove.
It offers high protection even though it doesn’t feel that soft. I’ve run 100 km so far and every time I used it I felt 100% fresh legs afterward (Note: I don’t run more than 10 km).
It has good (but not amazing) bounce/energy return.
It is super light, approaching racing shoes in weight, which helps when you want to pick up the pace.
It is stable (unlike shoes with softer foam or with less foam on the inside that don’t protect the foot at all from overpronation, like the Adidas EVO SL, for example).
It has perfect grip, you don’t slip anywhere.
It is (though subjective) very nice-looking. It has a simple style and clean lines and is, for example, perfect for vacations (running and casual in one pair).
It is almost certainly very durable and will be worth the money.

In the end you may even say wow for how complete the package is.
I highly recommend it. Happy running and be careful, listen to your body!

After more than 1 month with the shoes and having done over 300 kilometers, I can say that they are worthy successors to the also amazing Deviate Nitro 3.
It is softer-bouncier, lighter than its predecessor, an ideal shoe for all kinds of training.
It can follow all paces comfortably, without tiring you out.
Compared to the previous one, it is wider in the forefoot and may feel a bit strange at first.
If you are looking for an all-around shoe, it is an ideal choice.

Description & Specifications

The Deviate Pure NITRO is designed for training and everyday speed runs, offering lightweight NITROFOAM cushioning and a responsive feel while running. The Pure version is designed without the traditional carbon plate (PWRPLATE), allowing the premium midsole foam to perform at its maximum. The result is a noticeably softer ride, greater flexibility, and a significant reduction in weight (just 220g), making the shoe ideal for both daily runs and speed runs.

Advanced NITROFOAM Technology

The midsole is equipped with NITROFOAM technology – an advanced nitrogen-infused foam that effectively absorbs impact, protecting the joints while also returning energy with every push-off.

Ultimate Grip & Breathability

The upper is made from a special, lightweight mesh that ensures optimal airflow and keeps the foot cool. At the bottom, the outsole incorporates high-performance PUMAGRIP rubber, guaranteeing top-level traction on dry and wet surfaces for complete control.

  • NITROFOAM Technology: Advanced foam in the midsole for maximum cushioning and explosive responsiveness.
  • Plate-Free Design: A more flexible and natural ride that adapts perfectly to your foot mechanics.
  • PUMAGRIP Outsole: Durable rubber compound that provides maximum traction on multiple surfaces (ideal for asphalt).
  • Engineered Mesh Upper: Breathable, textile upper that offers a secure, snug, and cool fit.
  • Eco-Friendly / Sustainability: The upper is made from at least 30% recycled materials.
  • Extremely Lightweight: Weighs just 220 grams (UK size 8), minimizing fatigue on long runs
  • Heel-to-toe drop: 8 mm

Basic Features

  • Foot Strike Type: Neutral / Underpronation.
  • Upper Material: Lightweight Engineered Mesh fabric with PWRTAPE reinforcements.
  • Midsole Technology: Race-day NITROFOAM™ Elite foam infused with nitrogen.
  • Propulsion Technology: Full-length integrated carbon fiber PWRPLATE.
  • Outsole: PUMAGRIP compound rubber for high traction.
  • Drop (Heel-to-Toe Offset): 10 mm.
  • Lacing System: Anatomical lacing system with laces and a lightweight, race-inspired tongue.
  • Recommended Use: Tempo runs / interval training / racing.

Construction Materials & Upper Design

The upper of the PUMA Deviate Pure NITRO features an exceptionally lightweight fabric mesh (Engineered Mesh), designed to optimise breathability and keep overall weight to a minimum.

Targeted PWRTAPE reinforcement bands are placed in the areas that experience the greatest stress during acceleration, providing structural support and stabilising the midfoot. The slim tongue and collar ensure a precise, race-ready fit around the ankle.

NITROFOAM™ Elite Foam Technology & PWRPLATE

The midsole is made of NITROFOAM™ Elite foam, created using an advanced nitrogen-injection process. This material offers exceptionally low weight, high impact absorption and maximum energy return during toe-off.

Working in full synergy with the foam, the PWRPLATE carbon-fibre plate acts as a propulsion lever, maximising forward power transfer and maintaining shoe stability at high speeds.

PUMAGRIP Outsole & Traction

The outsole features the specialized PUMAGRIP rubber compound, which offers excellent abrasion resistance and a high coefficient of friction. Its tread pattern ensures a stable footing and grip on both dry and wet asphalt, allowing runners to maintain their pace safely through sharp turns.
