The PRS SE DGT Standard Moons Vintage Cherry is a double-cutaway solid-body electric guitar based on the McCarty platform and built to David Grissom’s specifications. The body is made entirely of solid mahogany (All-Mahogany), with a Shallow Violin Carve top and a gloss finish. The set mahogany neck features the custom ergonomic DGT profile and is paired with a 10-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, 22 DGT Fretwire frets, and PRS Moons inlays. The electronics include a pair of passive PRS DGT “S” pickups, with independent volume controls for each pickup and a push-pull tone control for coil-splitting. The hardware is completed by the patented PRS Patented Tremolo and PRS-Designed sealed tuning machines.
Basic Features
All-Mahogany Body Construction & DGT Ergonomics
The instrument’s body is made entirely from selected solid mahogany (Solid All-Mahogany), following the traditional architecture of the Standard series. The absence of a maple top ensures a warm acoustic character, rich natural sustain, and a balanced response in the low-mid frequencies. The Shallow Violin Carve on the front and the comfort contours on the back of the body provide a stable center of gravity and even pressure distribution when playing either standing or seated. The translucent, gloss Vintage Cherry finish highlights the natural grain of the mahogany and effectively protects the wood from moisture and surface wear.
DGT Custom Carve Neck, DGT Frets & Moon Inlays
The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany and attached to the body with a Set-Neck joint for direct transfer of acoustic energy. It features the distinctive DGT Carve profile, based on the historic vintage geometry of David Grissom’s personal guitar, with a slightly narrower nut width (42.06 mm) and a fuller depth for natural palm support. The Rosewood fingerboard, with a 10" (254 mm) radius, features 22 DGT frets, which are taller and wider for easier bends and improved sustain. The front is adorned with traditional PRS Moons inlays, adding a classic vintage aesthetic.
DGT “S” Electronics, Independent Volume & Tremolo System
The electric circuit features two PRS DGT "S" pickups, designed with a vintage focus to deliver rich dynamic response, clear articulation, and crisp treble response. The control layout is tailored to David Grissom’s preferences, featuring two independent Volume controls (the front control operates the bridge pickup and the middle control operates the neck pickup) and a Master Tone control with a Push-Pull Coil-Split switch for instantly switching to single-coil tones. The hardware is built around the die-cast PRS Patented Tremolo, which works with the PRS-Designed tuners to provide reliable tuning stability and precise intonation.
