Nail files are determined by the level of hardness indicated by numbers. The higher the number, the finer the texture. Conversely, the lower the numbers, the thicker and rougher it is. The surface of the file becomes coarser as the GRIT number decreases, and vice versa.

For artificial nails, files with harder grit are recommended, while for natural nails, softer files are recommended.

• 80-100: very coarse grit
• 120-150: coarse grit
• 180-240: medium grit
• 400: soft grit
• 600: very soft grit
