The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special Charcoal is a six-string solid-body electric guitar with a double cutaway, designed for extensive tonal versatility and exceptional ergonomic precision. Its body is crafted from solid swamp ash with a sculpted Shallow Violin Carve top and a gloss finish. The bolt-on neck is made from selected maple with a Wide Thin profile, paired with a 10-inch-radius maple fingerboard, 22 Medium Jumbo frets, and the distinctive PRS Birds inlays. The electronics feature an HSH configuration with two PRS 85/15 "S" humbuckers and a PRS AS-01 Single-Coil middle pickup, along with a 3-way selector and a push-pull tone control for coil-splitting. The hardware is rounded out by the patented PRS Patented Tremolo and PRS-Designed sealed tuning machines.

Swamp Ash Body Construction & Ergonomic Design

The instrument’s body is crafted from solid swamp ash (Solid Swamp Ash), a carefully selected tonewood known for its low specific gravity and open acoustic resonance. It features a tight low-frequency response, a slightly scooped midrange and lightning-fast clarity in the treble. The distinctive Shallow Violin Carve provides an ergonomic resting surface for the player’s right forearm, reducing fatigue during extended playing sessions. The translucent gloss Charcoal finish highlights the wood’s natural grain while protecting it from environmental changes and mechanical abrasion without dampening the body’s natural vibrations.

Maple Neck & Fretboard, Wide Thin

The neck is crafted from a single piece of Maple and joined to the body with a Bolt-On connection, delivering immediate attack, acoustic clarity, and a pronounced snap on every note. It features an ergonomic Wide Thin profile, measuring 20.6 mm thick at the 1st fret and 22.6 mm at the 12th fret, ensuring a secure grip and low resistance during fast position changes. The maple fretboard has a modern 10" (254 mm) radius and PRS’s intermediate 25" (635 mm) scale length, and is fitted with 22 Medium Jumbo frets and classic PRS Birds inlays, providing balanced string tension for both bending techniques and extended legato runs.

HSH Electronics, Coil-Split Versatility & Mounting Hardware

The electric circuit combines two PRS 85/15 "S" humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions with a central PRS AS-01 Single-Coil pickup, which combines Alnico pole pieces and a steel plate for increased output. The 3-way toggle switch and Tone potentiometer with a Push-Pull Coil-Split switch offer a total of six different tonal combinations, activating the central single-coil in parallel with the split coils of the humbuckers. The hardware features a cast PRS Patented Tremolo and sealed PRS-Designed tuners, ensuring smooth vibrato use, accurate intonation, and reliable tuning stability.
