The legendary figure of the renowned Athenian general Alcibiades has been simultaneously charismatic and enigmatic, brilliant and provocative, attractive and ambiguous. The speech "Peri tou zeugous" (On the Pair) by Isocrates, from the early 4th century BC, typically concerns a legal case against the eponymous son of Alcibiades regarding the seizure of a quadriga, which Alcibiades had won at the Olympic Games of 416 BC.
