Description

Speaking or writing about the martyred places is not a debt or a duty. It is an irresistible need of the soul. An inner impulse that incessantly pricks you and draws from the depths of your being the rage against those puppets who turn their barrels on the unarmed crowd and pull the trigger, murdering women and children thoughtlessly. And at the same time it draws out a stubborn resolve and a command: to denounce without ceasing the crimes that turn man into a beast and hand him over to history vile and miserable.

In these stormy times, when citizens entrust the fate of the world to paranoid and ruthless warmongering leaders, we, the descendants of the victims of the Nazi storm that ravaged and plunged the country into despair and mourning, feel the ropes tightening under a garden full of blood, such as the weapons and war merchants have made of the sky. And with whatever strength remains to us, we hear a voice rising powerfully from within us: they did not perish in vain! The sacrifice of the neo-martyrs of the period 1941–1944 was not lost. And the evil carried within Nazism and fascism we will not allow to pass into oblivion.

“Those who committed the evil” will answer before the courts of the future. For someday they must pay for the crimes that condemned—and continue to condemn—millions of children to live in orphanhood and contempt. The martyred places demand: Peace, Justice, and Compensation!
