In the dialogue between the Lord and the Samaritan woman, a crucial indication of His is presented to her and through her to all of us: “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father seeks such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24). Worship of the Divine is conducted in Spirit. It is the Spirit that reveals the Son (gives testimony about the Son), who sends it (note: it does not originate from it) according to John 15:26: “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me,” and which is the (inseparable) truth itself according to the Gospel of John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” The Son is the gate, the door (“I am the door” John 10:9) that leads to the Father, since He Himself reveals that “the one who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). And it is the Spirit of truth that reveals the truth which is the Son, working so that people may see Him, according to the above Gospel verse, so that through Him, namely the Son, they may recognize the Father. In this Trinitarian schema, where pneumatology refers to Christology and Christology points to the vision of the Father, lies our salvation, namely our participation, by Grace, in the mode of love-filled mutual indwelling of the Trinitary persons. In other words, with pneumatology which refers to Christology, leading ultimately to the vision of the Father, we have before us the schema of Orthodox soteriology.
