Elemental zinc in picolinate form which is considered the most absorbable. Useful in cases of male infertility, anorexia nervosa, and various cases of inflammation and infections, rheumatoid arthritis, acne, macular degeneration, and senile dementia.
Increased needs exist in situations of pregnancy, breastfeeding, surgeries, injuries, and alcoholism. Zinc deficiency is often seen in alcoholics, vegetarians, and the elderly.
High doses of zinc can adversely affect copper levels (and vice versa). Although scientific opinions on the ideal copper-zinc ratio vary, for prolonged periods of use, a ratio of 1:7.5 and 1:10 copper to zinc is likely necessary.
