Nail files are essential for every nail stylist. There are many types on the market, made from different materials and shapes. What you should pay the most attention to is the grading (or grit) of the file. The numbers associated with files 80, 100, 180, 240 refer to the number of grains per 1 cm² of the file surface. The lower the grading, the coarser the grit.

• Coarse - 80 grit: used for removing edges and other elements from the nail plate. Primarily used by more experienced nail stylists.
• Medium grit - 100 grit: these are the most commonly chosen classic nail files. They are used for shaping the natural nail arch, shaping extended nails, as well as for gel application.
• Fine grit - 180/240 grit: have many applications and are very versatile. Ideal for placing tips, filling nails with acrylic or gel, as well as for shortening and smoothing natural nails.
• Buffing - grading over 300: polishing levels that give shine and gloss to natural nails. Used to complete the manicure.

When using nail files of different grits, it is worth remembering that you first use coarse grit and last – fine grit. Only this sequence is correct.
