Description

Rose otto essential oil has a strong aroma that is hard to confuse. It offers a wide range of effects – in skincare, for aromatherapy and meditation, as well as for combating depression, anxiety and tension, cough, spasms, inflammation in the body, lack of energy, and more.

Bulgaria is one of the largest producers of rose otto essential oil worldwide. It is produced through steam distillation from the flowers of the oil-bearing Rosa damascena and is widely used in the cosmetics industry. Turkey, France, and India also contribute to the global market with natural rose otto essential oil, but in Bulgaria, the cultivation of the plant began in the 18th century and has become one of the country's main symbols.

Since the time of Cleopatra, rose otto has been used for aromatherapy and essential oil production. Thanks to its unique aroma, it was also used as an aphrodisiac – to charm Mark Antony. When ships full of kilos of petals arrived, people could smell them from miles away.

Later, rose otto essential oil was imported to Egypt, where it became a key ingredient in mummy embalming. It is also recorded that the famous healer Avicenna prepared an extract from rose petals to treat various health problems such as cough, tuberculosis, wounds, and more.

The rose is called the Queen of Flowers. From the past to the present, essential oil from Rosa damascena is a precious gift that not everyone has access to. The reason for its higher price is that harvesting is done in specific locations, with flowers collected manually at a specific time.

Every year, the Rose Festival is held in Kazanlak, located in the Rose Valley of Bulgaria. The cultivation of the oil-bearing rose and essential oil production there began in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

It has been proven that Rosa damascena essential oil contains over 250 elements. It includes 30% stearopten (solid form), which has no aroma but helps preserve the scent for longer duration, as well as elopten (liquid form).
