It consists of a solid chemical mixture, which includes:

Upon electrical or thermal activation, a redox reaction takes place, producing a large amount of condensed fire-extinguishing aerosol. The metal salt particles contained in the aerosol absorb a significant amount of heat at high temperatures, thereby reducing the flame temperature and inhibiting the combustion reaction.
