Butterfly Souls
I liked sleeping
peacefully and well.
But butterflies came into my sleep.
“We never wanted to leave
Israel, our parents,
our party,”
they whispered to me.
How can you sleep?
And the next night, others came.
“We never wanted to leave
Iran, our parents,
our school,”
they whispered to me.
How can you sleep?
And the night after that, others came.
“We never wanted to leave
Gaza, our parents,
our land,”
they whispered to me.
And now, every night, I wait for them,
the butterfly souls of war,
and I don’t mind that I don’t sleep
peacefully and well.
What matters is that by day I fight
so that no more are born.
Like a blue sea
like a blue sky
like a blue day
the blue smile
the blue love.
Words of Flowers
Words of sunflowers in flowering fields
words of thyme on summer hills
words of anemones on iridescent horizons
words of lilies on the sands by the sea
words of water lilies in green rivers
these are the words of love.
Words of cyclamens on rain-soaked slopes
words of chrysanthemums on white peaks
words of photinias on dark nights
words of poppies in gray cities
words of lavender on bitter days
these are the words of love.
