A collection of texts by Valéry concerning politics and international affairs. Paul Valéry had deep interests in politics and was actively involved in international issues as a representative of the Society of Nations and as a delegate of France to two of its bodies—the Committee on Intellectual Collaboration and the Permanent Committee of Arts and Letters. This volume presents approximately sixty essays, speeches, and other writings by Valéry—from 1895 to 1945—in which he describes his political ideas and concerns. The Collected Works of Paul Valéry, the first comprehensive edition of the author's work in English, includes new translations, the original French text on facing pages for poetic works, and editorial notes with commentaries.
