The Fritillaria Imperialis Rubra bulb produces pendant flowers in shades ranging from deep orange to dark red, arranged in a ring beneath a crown of green leaves. The plant typically reaches a height of 90–100 cm and blooms for around 2–3 weeks, from April to May.
Plant from September to December in a sunny spot or light partial shade, in rich, fertile, well-drained soil. To prevent water from collecting in the natural cavity at the centre of the bulb, plant it tilted slightly to one side. Its distinctive scent repels mice, moles and deer.
