Arum italicum bulbs produce a perennial plant with ornamental foliage in winter and flowers in spring. The glossy, arrow-shaped leaves often have cream or white veins, while in spring an inflorescence appears, with a pale green spathe and a yellow spadix.
In early summer, the foliage dies back and red-orange berries develop where the flowers were. Plant the bulbs in autumn, in full or partial shade and in fertile soil that retains moisture but drains well. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested and may cause severe skin irritation; wearing gloves when planting is recommended.
