Description & Specifications

The SINOTIMER AFDD AFDD2-63 B16 switch is a 4-in-1 protection device for single-phase 1P+N electrical circuits at 230 V AC. It combines arc fault detection (AFDD), residual current protection, overload protection and short-circuit protection.

The model has a rated current of 16 A, a B tripping characteristic and a residual current sensitivity of 30 mA. The AFDD function monitors the circuit for dangerous electrical arcs, which can result from loose connections, damaged conductive materials, faulty insulation or poor electrical contacts.

The device features TEST and RESET buttons, as well as indicator lights for operation and fault identification. A front window allows the mechanism’s status to be monitored.

Its compact design allows it to be installed directly in an electrical panel on a standard 35 mm DIN rail.

4-in-1 protection
  • AFDD – arc fault detection
  • 30 mA residual current protection – residual current detection
  • Overload protection
  • Short-circuit protection

By combining these functions in a single device, the AFDD2-63 provides excellent circuit protection while taking up minimal space in the distribution panel.

AFDD function – arc fault protection

The AFDD (Arc Fault Detection Device) monitors the electrical circuit for characteristic signals of a dangerous arc fault. Such faults can be caused by:

  • Loose electrical connections
  • Damaged wires or insulation
  • Poor contacts
  • Mechanically damaged conductive materials
  • Connections that generate heat and electrical arcs

Detecting an arc fault allows the protection device to interrupt operation and helps reduce the risk of overheating and electrical fires.

30 mA residual current protection

The device provides residual current protection with a rated sensitivity of 30 mA. This function monitors current imbalance in the circuit and trips the device when the tripping conditions are met.

Overload and short-circuit protection

The AFDD2-63 B16 includes thermal-magnetic protection, with:

  • Rated current: 16 A
  • Characteristic: B
  • Breaking capacity: 4500 A / 4.5 kA

A B characteristic is used for circuits where inrush currents are not particularly high. The final protection rating should be selected according to the installation and connected loads.

Front indicators

The device has three indicators:

  • RUN – green: indicates that the device is operating.
  • GF – red: indicator related to a ground fault.
  • AF – yellow: indicator related to arc fault detection.

The front mechanical window also allows the device’s status to be monitored.

TEST and RESET buttons

The orange TEST button allows you to check that the protection system is working. The blue RESET button is used to reset the device according to the operating procedure.
