The book Fundamentals of Theoretical Mechanics is intended primarily for second-year and more advanced undergraduate students in the sciences and engineering. It assumes basic knowledge from introductory courses in mechanics, linear algebra, and vector functions. However, many of the concepts required are reviewed throughout the book where appropriate.
The book is divided into two parts. Part I follows the historical development of mechanics, gradually introducing the Newtonian, Lagrangian, and Hamiltonian approaches. Part II explores more advanced topics: central potentials, rigid-body theory, coupled oscillations, finite mass distributions, and the three-body problem.
At the end of each chapter, a wide selection of problems is included, designed to reinforce understanding of the concepts and provide opportunities for practice.
