On the occasion of the major retrospective exhibition “Alekos Levidis. Painting 1961–2026. A Lifelong Game”, which opened on Thursday, October 7, 2026, at the Benaki Museum / Pireos 138, Agra Publications, in collaboration with the Academy of Athens, is publishing a monumental volume of the same name. Available in Greek and English, this richly illustrated book captures the distinguished painter and academic’s prolific creative journey spanning more than six decades. The volume serves as both a comprehensive guide and an independent visual record, showcasing the breadth and diversity of Alekos Levidis’s work.
Its pages feature more than 500 works tracing his career from his early years to the present: paintings and drawings, sketchbooks and painted book-cover designs that reveal his deep affinity with literature, as well as murals, installations, and stage sets that showcase his extensive work in scenography. As the artist himself notes, painting has always been a “lifelong game” for him: an inner process that, like children’s play, requires focus, creative imagination, and perseverance, while also offering deep and fertile enjoyment.
This creative journey unfolds through the book like an open map, where personal experience meets history, memory, and fiction.
