A sumptuous and lyrical contemporary fable about bravery and self-esteem, told through the migration of swallows. This stand-out picture book is brought to life by Olivia Hope's rich storytelling and Huýnh Kim Liên's stunning, detailed artwork.
"How will I find my way?" whispered Flick, trembling. "Head up, wings wide and own the sky," Greytail replied. "Then listen. . ." "Listen for what?" Flick said. "Why THE SONG OF THE SUN, of course!" Greytail sang.
Flick is setting off on her first migration. A journey of thousands of miles. She is filled with worry and uncertainty, and it's only with the help of wise, old Greytail that Flick is able to take the leap into the great unknown. At first, Flick can only concentrate on flapping her wings, but the further they fly, she slowly starts to zip and zoom, sing and soar. Then when Greytail cannot fly on, Flick's fear sweeps through her and blazes once more. Without Greytail by her side, Flick battles on, flapping harder and harder until. . . she bursts out into the sunlight! And that's when she hears it for the first time. Others, just like her. Singing her song. Singing THE SONG OF THE SUN!
This heartfelt, empowering story is a modern classic in the making with a beautifully foiled and cloth-textured cover. The perfect bookshelf companion to The Fawn Who Chased the Sun, Starbird, The Fox and the Star and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
