The Baader Contrast-Booster filter enhances contrast when observing planets and the Moon, while reducing sky haze and the blue color seen in achromatic refractor telescopes. Its substrate is made of special neodymium glass, and its coatings filter out out-of-focus blue wavelengths while maintaining over 95% transmission across the main parts of the visible spectrum, including H-Alpha.
The slight yellowish tint it adds is less pronounced than that of a standard yellow filter. Color contrasts and details, such as Jupiter’s cloud bands and Great Red Spot, become more distinct without a significant loss of brightness. The filter can also be used to observe Mars and for solar observing when used with a Baader AstroSolar solar filter. For digital photography, it can be combined with a Baader UV-IR-Cut filter.
