Description

USB Pad controller with 16 illuminated MPC pads with sensitivity. 3 "banks" of sounds on each PAD, 48 sounds in total. USB port. 16 configurable presets. Powered via USB.

AKAI MPD218, midi pad controller with USB connection that includes 16 illuminated MPC pads, each of which can be assigned 3 functions, storing a total of 48 selectable commands, 6 rotary knobs with triple assignable functions, and 16 adjustable presets. It is ideal for musicians and DJs, offering the control they desire in operating the programs they use.

The package includes a USB cable, Ableton Live Lite, MPC Beats, Drum Synth 500, and 6 months of free subscription to Reason+ for registered users who purchased the MPD218.

The MPD218 is a MIDI-over-USB pad controller, ideal for producers, programmers, musicians, and DJs. The user-friendly combination of controls and MPC technologies is paired with easy USB connectivity to bring the feel of classic beat making to the world of computer-based music production.

Initially, we improved the level of our speakers by adding new, highly sensitive Thick Fat MPC pads, creating an amazingly fast user experience. The MPD218 also features an expanded set of controls with six knobs in three banks, as opposed to one controller in the previous MPD18 model. This will allow you to maximize your sound and have increased control over the effects.

Connection and operation

MIDI information is sent via the USB plug-and-play port for use on Mac or PC, eliminating the need to install drivers. The USB connection powers the MPD218, so the provided USB cable is all you need.

Along with improved functionality, we have added compatibility with iOS using the Camera Connection Kit (sold separately) and included free software worth over $400. Titles include: MPC Beats, Drum Synth 500 by AIR, Ableton Live Lite, and Software Preset Editor.

The MPD2 series marks a significant evolution in the field of pad controllers. Years of research and customer feedback have directly led to some of the most capable pad controllers we have ever developed. These MPDs are the perfect bridge between your creativity and your computer-based studio.

MPC Software 2.0 is a groundbreaking production suite that combines 128-track sequencing capability, real-time stretching, clip launching functionality, advanced MIDI editing capability, VST compatibility in controller mode, standalone application operation on Mac & PC, advanced sampling and audio editing/recording functionality, seamless DAW integration, redesigned graphical user interface, Ableton Link compatibility, and much more. Whether you are seeking freedom from computer-based music production or looking for the perfect controller for creative exploration focused on your DAW, MPC Software 2.0 offers the ultimate adaptive creative flexibility.

    The best for its money!
Small and lightweight for easy transportation.
The pads are thick and very sensitive.
The knobs look okay, time will tell.
No need for drivers, it's plug and play at least on the Windows 10 I have.
Ideal for beginners in beat making like myself, I think.
I've had it for 2 days and I've been playing with it and haven't found anything negative.
    I highly recommend it.

Good evening! I bought this specific model from Akai in August 2019 and as a newcomer in the music production field, I am extremely satisfied with this model. Its construction is very good. The pads are quite sensitive, although they don't respond well to light hits. Overall, it came in EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!! For someone who is a beginner and is just starting to get into music production, I highly recommend it without a second thought. In a few words, it is worth the money and more!!!!

  • Mine came out excellent from the box, even though there are many reviews on the internet about problems with the pads. I have to say it lacks sensitivity in weak hits, but for the price it asks for, it is superb. I gave it 4 stars based on the absolute measure of comparison in drumpads.

The fact that the pads are thick doesn't mean anything since they are also hard. It's a stupid marketing move by Akai that unfortunately worked... The previous mpd18 had much better feeling pads but they didn't trigger correctly. At least the 218 ones work perfectly.
If it was cheaper, I would give it 5 stars but not at this price....
More useful are 2 LPD8 (without aftertouch and not endless knobs) but they are decent for their price.
Update: Apparently, some models have pads of different quality, so it's a matter of luck which one you'll get....
