This work is by no means a historical research, although it refers to critical historical periods for our homeland, such as the Greco-Italian War, the occupation, the national resistance, and the disastrous civil war for our country.
It is a mixture of historical fiction and some self-contained short stories independent of one another. The described events occurred, meaning they are true, with a minimal dose of fictionalization.
The characters are real and are referred to by their true names, except for a few, which for obvious reasons have been altered to avoid resurfacing unpleasant situations and behaviors of certain neighbors. The names of men are prefixed with "Uncle" (e.g., Uncle Kostas), while for women it is "Auntie" (e.g., Auntie Giannou), as that is how we knew them and addressed all the older people back then as younger children. Therefore, I preserved this tradition.
However, a hidden and unspoken goal of this work in your hands, dear reader, is a tribute to the mother and father. Whether I succeeded in this, you will judge, as you have the patience to read this book to the end.
