Valkyria Chronicles is set in a fictional continental world reminiscent of the 1930s, depicting a Europe divided into two parts and under the control of two superpowers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire aims to seize a small neutral country called Gallia, located at the center of the territories of the two superpowers, trying to secure valuable natural resources. Amid this conflict, a hero named Welkin and his fellow soldiers from the Federation's 7th Squad fight against the Empire's invasion and its efforts to unify the continent under its power.

During the war, the Federation discovers that the Empire possesses a secret weapon known as the "Valkyria" - an ancient race with special powers that was believed to exist only in legends. With this new discovery, the fate of the Federation to change the course of the war and the hope for a better future are uncertain.
