For a long time, I have wished to write a monograph that would present the legal status of conducting war in Islam, because, as we know, the rules under which jihad is carried out are strict and rigid. Moreover, I repeat for the umpteenth time that Islam is primarily just, and thus, the form of war in order to align with what is Islamically correct must adhere to established rules of justice.

This monograph systematically presents these rules, analyzes them, and in many respects synthesizes them, providing a complete and legally grounded picture of jihad. This work by the expert in Islamic law Kyriakos Th. Nikolaou-Patragas serves as a primary tool for understanding the phenomenon of Islamic holy war and places matters on their proper foundation, free from possibilities of overinterpretations, misinterpretations, ambiguities, and misunderstandings that often lead to critical errors.
