In a period when activists in Greece were hunted, imprisoned, exiled, and executed, the political prisoners of the Kérkyra prisons drafted a memorandum to the United Nations General Assembly (June 3, 1955).

The aim of the memorandum was to highlight the struggle for General Amnesty in Greece, as well as the need for the legalization of the KKE and the AKEL. This memorandum serves as a comprehensive record of the living conditions and torture of thousands in all places of confinement throughout Greek territory.

The records and testimonies contained in the publication represent an almost complete list of the methods of institutional and physical violence that the state employed to stabilize bourgeois power in Greece.

It serves as a guide to understanding the moral stature of communists, their resilience, selflessness, and the magnitude of their sacrifice. The original of this publication is preserved in the Archive of the Central Committee of the KKE.
