Description

Highly practical Midi controller/mixer with a particularly small size that makes it ideal for transport, offering comprehensive control of any DAW, excellent for mixing and post-production for use with Cubase / Logic etc., 8 independent line faders / 1 master fader, 24 potentiometers (arranged in three (3) per channel), 16 buttons provide mute / solo / record options per channel, send all mixing settings with the use of a single button, 1-to-1 function assignment with Ableton Live (Ableton Live Lite included).

The MIDImix is a portable, compact, high-performance mixer that has the unique ability to control your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with the press of a single button, giving all musicians and producers complete and simple control over mixing and editing their digital music creations on the go.

Until now, you had to first build and layer your mixes in the performance space and then transfer that mix later to your DAW for editing and post-mix manipulation. What a hassle. This is not the way you would want to do it, due to the time delay between creating the initial mix and not being able to work on it until later in your DAW. This meant you had limited ability to create the exact mix you wanted in real time.

The portable MIDImix from Akai Professional completely solves this problem. With Akai Professional's renowned build quality and innovative engineering, it combines a high-performance mixer with 8 individual line faders and a master fader, 24 control knobs arranged 3 per channel, and 1-to-1 mapping with Ableton Live (Ableton Live Lite included). You can send all mixer settings to your DAW with a single press of a button, for unprecedented management and precise control of your DAW’s functionality. This is excellent—it means you can mix and modify/manipulate your projects simultaneously in real time, giving you a much wider range of creative options as a result of the much greater creative flexibility offered by the MIDImix.

Until now, there was no solution for musicians and producers who needed a compact, easily portable way to mix and edit their projects on the spot. But the MIDImix is the best solution for portable mixing on the go. The MIDImix offers an easy-to-use, familiar mixing layout, reliable connectivity with the most popular DAWs, and legendary Akai Professional quality. The MIDImix is exactly what you need to make great mixes and professional editing on the spot—all at the same time.

1st day of use: Pretty good in terms of construction and value for money. If you only use it as a mixer in Ableton, it's quite convenient that it automatically maps. However, if you want to use it for something else, it can be a bit challenging because let's not forget that it's MIDI and you can manage it however you want (maybe I haven't found a way yet to prevent automatic mapping). Also, I would say that the Editor is not very helpful compared to the Editors of the mpk and mpd.

From what I saw, almost everyone uses the AKAI MIDIMix for ableton mixing, which is its main purpose. But I use it for DJing in traktor.

    - The abundance of buttons is so great that I use it for effects (whole FX1, FX2, FX3, FX4 units) and for two extra channels with low and high intensities. Just understand that all midi controllers are simply buttons that send a note. With custom mapping, you can literally do whatever you want in any midi accepting program!

    - In terms of button quality, they are all low profile, nice, and sturdy.

The only negative thing I found is that the Bank left and Bank right only work correctly in ableton. In other programs, the buttons are recognized normally but they don't change their channel (In traktor, it can be fixed with modifiers). Also, the overall mapping of the midimix can only be changed through its own program, but that's a minor issue.

I highly recommend it for those who want more buttons!

Another great Value for Money MIDI Controller for Mixing from AKAI with
    - 24 Q-Link Knobs which are very good, they are simply low profile
    - 9 Faders (8 for the tracks and the last one for the master volume) also very good
functions like solo, mute, rec, and bank button (to move left and right on the tracks if we have more than 8)

I confidently recommend it!! It has been very useful for me in Ableton!!

If you want to see it better, I have done an Unboxing/Review here:
