Review this product
  • I installed it in an old computer with a g4560 and z270 motherboard and it reached 2933mhz with 14-15-15-32. Not bad at all!

This review is about the modules: 2

I bought it because of its low price in order to upgrade to 16gb soon. My platform is r5 1600 on an asrock b450 motherboard. It is fully compatible with Ryzen. I believe it is the best value choice: it doesn't have the ugly green color, it has good performance, and it doesn't differ much in speed from more expensive products. Dual channel is also much more important than higher frequency.

The reason I give it 4 stars is because of the promised frequency. All RAM runs from the factory at all frequencies or at least up to where they can (this one at 2666mhz). Processors without overclock have their RAM controller at 2133mhz. With overclock of the controller (xmp), we achieve higher frequencies. At 2133, it runs without any problems, but if we choose the xmp profile of the RAM (2400mhz 15-15-15-15-36), the computer has a 25% chance of crashing at startup (while the BIOS is still loading). I tried increasing the volts to 1.3 but still the same... CAS 16-16-16-16-39, still the same. In other words, it is a stick with guaranteed 2133 and not 2400, or 2400 but with cl17.

Some more expensive motherboards solve this problem with an option in the BIOS for increased voltage (I think it's called bvoltage) at startup, like 1.4-1.5 volts.

Ryzen processors in general don't clock the memory as well, so we don't always achieve the frequency stated on the stick.

I specifically bought a b450 instead of a b350 with a first-generation Ryzen because I knew these issues had been improved.

Currently, I am running this RAM at 2666mhz 16-16-16-16-39, 1.3 volts, and the crashes are still around 25%.

I should note that in no case did Windows crash, and the problem is only at startup and is a platform issue. Also, each piece is different.

I performed stability tests at 2666mhz with super pi and cinebench, several times, no problem.

    EDIT (10/12/18):
The problem was magically solved and there are no more crashes at boot. The memory runs perfectly at 2666mhz cl16, 1.3 volts. My system is power-hungry, mainly due to the graphics card (rx 580) which may require a little more power during startup from idle. My power supply is 650w 80+bronze and I believed I wouldn't have any power supply issues. It could even be due to the power supply from the electric company. However, these memories are 100% stable.

    EDIT (26/4/20):
I have upgraded to 16gb for the past 6 months. Each kit in one channel, 2666mhz 16-16-16-16-39, 1.3 volts. The combination of the 2 kits was done without any problems.

A few days of use, so my evaluation is not absolutely valid! For now, everything is okay! Their reliability and stability will be shown in the future! I will come back ;)
