There is one table: either you serve, or you are served. Rome, 1599. Count Cenci is the richest man of the time. He is intelligent, disrespectful, and cynical. Ironic and sarcastic. One evening, Cenci receives an unexpected visitor. The Pope's negotiator, Signor Camillo, arrives at his Palace. The Count struggles to see anything good in the intentions of the unwanted guest, and the rain accompanying him does not seem to be a favorable omen.
Signor Camillo advises Cenci that if he wishes to keep his previous crimes hidden, he must immediately cede one-third of his wealth to the Vatican. Old Cenci, despite his objections, surprised by the Inquisition's proposal to be silenced with his own gold, decides to capitulate.
In the name of this capitulation – and since the gold he concedes seems enough for a few more crimes – he plans the unspeakable: a massive orgy where he will kill his two sons and tarnish the honor of his only daughter. The dishonored Beatrice is the only one in all of Rome who has the courage to take revenge on him for his misdeeds. However, power is a force without justice and returns to whoever fights it. The gallows awaiting him is warm. And the story is real.
