For anyone who has Linux, this one works perfectly - I tested it on Fedora 44 (Workstation and KDE Plasma Edition) and it was recognized immediately without requiring any configuration

I wanted to convert old DVDs to .iso so I could have a backup in case the discs get damaged... it read 21-year-old discs instantly and converted them very quickly... the only drawback is that the software offered for free with the device is useless if you have Windows 11, as the operating system doesn't even allow the setup to run... other than that, it was worth every penny.

It read and played all the old discs I had in my collection, even some no-name brands. When recording, it had an issue with one disc but that's not the copier's fault (it was old and scratched). It has a short cable (for some people this might be convenient). It needs to be connected to a USB 2.0 port to work without problems. On USB 3.0 it worked but I had connectivity issues (the DVD drive was not recognized either on Windows 10 or Windows 11). The noise it makes is tolerable (okay, I don't expect it to be silent)

Replaced a corresponding external LG that started to become temperamental with (very) old archival DVDs. I had no expectations for 100% recovery, especially after the shock of the total loss of an entire generation of expensive (back then) TDK (= NONE were recognized!!!) Read everything (except for the TDK...), even old cheap Princo.

I really didn't expect it to be so reliable since today's laptops don't have a built-in DVD drive, I highly recommend it.

Easy to connect with just one plug, immediate recognition by Windows, no problems reading optical media. Maybe it would help if the connection cable was a little longer, but nevertheless it is convenient to use.

I will stay on point: It recognized and read many old CDs and DVDs that I wanted to archive, while other cheaper devices failed.

If you want to archive old data/audio DVDs/CDs that may have significant damage, then choose this device and not the cheaper ones.
