In recent years, there has been a particular emphasis, at the European level, on starting to learn another language besides the mother tongue from primary school or even preschool age.
Researchers and experts who advocate for early language learning focus on the advantages related to the cognitive development of students, the awakening of intercultural and multilingual consciousness, as well as the formation of positive attitudes toward other languages and cultures.
A key factor for successful early language learning is the 'optimal conditions' for learning a foreign language through the adoption of teaching approaches suitable for young learners. Play has been recognized as an effective medium for language learning, as in a playful, interactive, and enjoyable environment, the educator can capture the students' attention, stimulate their interest, and ensure their spontaneous participation in the learning process.
The interdisciplinary project "I Play and Learn the Foreign Language," which we present in this book, is based on the utilization of creative activities (games) aimed at the first contact of young students with the foreign language in a pleasant, creative, playful, and fun framework, through the application of the 6E model: Engagement, Exploration, Expression, Communication, Problem-solving, Enjoyment, which we recommend.
