Brooklyn: Andy is on the brink of collapse. She is furious with her father, who has left, she is angry with her mother, who cannot come to terms with the fact, and she is shattered by the loss of her younger brother. And the worst part is that, in addition to anger and pain, there is the possibility of being expelled from the school she attends. Unexpectedly, an opportunity for a trip to Paris arises, and there she embarks on an unpredictable series of events.
Paris: Alexandrine lived two centuries ago. She dreamed of leaving her mark on the theatrical stages of the City of Light, but fate brought a doomed prince into her path. She now takes on a role she did not desire, but one she cannot escape. Two girls, two lives separated by two centuries. One would never know the other. But when Andy discovers Alexandrine's diary in modern-day Paris, she recognizes in her words a flame that burns within her as well.
As she reads about what happened two hundred years ago, Andy finds comfort and escapes – until, during a midnight journey in the catacombs of Paris, she discovers that the romantic past can suddenly become a terrifying present.
