The elderly aristocratic gentleman stopped, out of breath, in front of the main entrance of the old two-story house. He had parked his car two streets down, and the slightly uphill road, along with the heart condition that troubled him more and more as the years passed, had caused him discomfort. However, I was lucky, while poor Georgakis… he thought, recalling his eldest son, who had died at the age of just five from the same hereditary disease, but in a much more severe form. Of course, at that time there were no modern medical means, and pediatric heart surgery was in its infancy. In recent days, he had been thinking a lot about his lost child, as had everyone in the family. The chance meeting of his daughter Mary with Lina Petropoulou, their old neighbor, and the speculations it caused, scratched old wounds and gave rise to new anxieties. Now he himself did not know what to expect from this meeting or what outcome he wished for, but one thing was certain: this matter would definitely be clarified, and if his suspicions were confirmed, his family would take responsibility.
Nikos was not just a simple neighbor to Lina who played with her in the yard under the mulberry trees. He was her first love. And, before that, he was her secret advisor and mentor, having spent a full nine years with her, appearing all-knowing in her eyes.
Later, when adolescence matured her young body, Nikos taught her the secrets of love and passion. However, shortly after, at the age of eighteen, Lina went from absolute happiness to absolute despair when he abandoned her, knowing that the child they conceived was growing in her womb.
However, her trials did not stop there. A series of unspeakable tragedies and losses of loved ones ravaged her youth, throwing her into orphanhood and leaving her all alone and helpless, needing to stand tall to nurture the creature she had brought into the world.
Lina bled from hard work, but, seven years later, she finally stood on her own two feet, and a new love illuminated her darkened heart with its bright light. Fortune had finally begun to smile upon her.
And then, suddenly, Nikos reappeared, once again claiming her heart and his child.
