Ken Saro-Wiwa was hanged on November 10, 1995, for defending life against death. This book was written by him during his imprisonment. Its publication is a tribute to a personality that symbolizes the small Ogoni people, who, through his conscious sacrifice, became a global symbol of the unwavering struggle of the powerless against terrifying mechanisms of enforcement.

The execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa turned the international community's gaze toward the actions and days of Shell in the Niger Delta, the unimaginable destruction of the natural environment in the area, but also radicalized the struggle of the Ogoni, who since then have claimed their right to survival even more vigorously.

Unfortunately, Ken Saro-Wiwa was not the last martyr of the murderous actions of multinational corporations. The land of the Ogoni was not the last to be destroyed by the insatiable quest for profit. Environmental disasters continue unabated across the planet - and in Greece as well: the most recent example being Skouries in Halkidiki.
