OK, I have 1 LR and 3 regular ones. I am writing this review because I received notifications for new reviews.

At 160€ + regular, it's not worth it. There are access points from companies like Ruckus, which used to have these prices for used ones, while new ones used to cost from 500€ - 2000€. Examples: Ruckus Zoneflex Unleashed R500, R600, R510, R610.

The above APs work on their own, without a controller, and they are superior to what Ubiquiti offers.

Furthermore, because they are usually hard to find as they are truly enterprise-grade, at these outrageous prices, it makes no sense to get this compared to a TP-LINK EAP225/EAP245/EAP265, unless you are already in the Unifi ecosystem with existing APs or switches.

Since both Unifi and EAP access points require controllers, at least for setup, it is better to go towards TP-Link, clearly due to cost and also due to the major failure that was the Unifi CloudKey Gen2+ with its many problems.

I would recommend the EAP225 (the newest version that you can find at a cheap price) and the OC200 controller if you want an extra controller instead of running it on a computer when needed.

For God's sake, do not pay 160€+ for something that costs ~80€ and has similar or worse performance (in signal strength) compared to the EAPs.

3 were purchased for 2 houses and 1 for outdoor use.
In combination with the dream machine pro, which is also used as a controller, they were all immediately set up with a single click using the mobile application.
I used the included poe injectors for power, and they have been working flawlessly on a 70-meter cat6a cable for 3 months now (100% uptime).
Software updates are automatically done during hours when there is no network traffic.
The mesh works flawlessly as the client devices (such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) do not see them as different access points during the transition.
They have multiple radios, and you can configure each radio to a different VLAN if you want to create a guest WiFi isolated from the rest of the network. This is useful for people like me who have servers with sensitive data stored (photos, banking information, passwords, etc.).
I cannot provide objective measurements for the speeds as the devices I have are not the fastest, but they manage to reach speeds of 200-250 Mbps at 20 meters in the 5GHz band, and when all devices are connected simultaneously, I do not notice any difference in local network speeds or latency.
The only negative thing I noticed is that when there is traffic on more than 10 devices, I see a jitter of about 10-15 ms.
I don't know if it's due to the 5th generation or the devices themselves, but it's worth noting.
IT IS NOT A DEVICE FOR BEGINNERS.
While the basic setup is simple, to fully utilize the device, you will need basic network knowledge and a controller (either cloud, VM, or a physical device).
In terms of range, it's not the best I've seen, but guys, it's a mesh device... it's designed to work with other access points.
I don't think it's worth buying a poe switch as each device has its own injector, unless you want to keep the cable chaos to a minimum.
The next step is to install a UPS for the modem, udmpro, and poe injectors.

I have had this specific AP for 2 years. Its main advantage is that it is extremely stable. It has never crashed and I only rebooted it when I did a firmware update. But unfortunately, that's where the good ends. So, I give it 2 stars because:
- The previous model, the green one that I also have for several years, has a transmission power of 27dbm while this one has 24dbm. With the latest firmware (it's March 2022 as I write this), I discovered that the Tx power is locked at 17dbm, since the device is European. In the previous UAPs, you could change it by setting a different region in the controller or by adjusting the country code with SSH, but I couldn't improve it in this one no matter what.
- The 5GHz only reaches if you are close by. The Asus AC55U that I have has much better range and wall penetration.
- They managed to make the base much worse than the previous one, which was actually fine as it was.
- The controller software is nauseating. It makes simple things complicated. It's only worth it if you have a lot of access points, and even then, it doesn't save you much trouble.
- There are much better options for the same price. At the current price of €130, I consider it prohibitive to choose this one.

I bought this specific AP after getting frustrated with the mediocre performance of my WiFi router, especially on the 5 GHz band.

The installation was very simple, all I had to do was install the UniFi Network Controller on my PC (which runs Linux but that's not important), create an account, and adopt the AP. The software has many features, but if you only have one AP and no other Ubiquiti equipment, most settings won't need your attention.

After completing the installation, I noticed a significant improvement in the WiFi coverage in my house, both on the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands. I don't live in a huge house, but previously the 5 GHz signal only reached the room with the router, and now it reaches even the balcony! Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their home or business WiFi.

It's worth noting that if you want to cover a larger area, you can purchase multiple APs and connect them in a mesh network. This way, all APs will provide access to the same SSID, and any WiFi devices will automatically be served by the AP with the strongest signal.

3 were purchased for the house, which has 3 levels.
Except for the difficulty of programming them (you need a program downloaded from the ubiquity website, the controller), the devices are literally unbeatable!
Continuous and uninterrupted WiFi throughout the house, without gaps, without speed drops due to roaming - transfer from one to another.
Once you manage (relatively quickly) to understand their topology and operation, everything becomes easy, it just takes getting used to.
I highly recommend it for excellent signal throughout the house without any problems.

Update 17/09/21:
They have been working continuously since they were installed!
Usually, they are connected to the system with 20+ WiFi devices, while almost everything in the house is interconnected, around 40+ devices, except for kitchen appliances and refrigerators!
No problem! Never!

Update 15/01/24:
A 4th one was purchased to cover the terrace as well!
They continue uninterrupted, without any problems.
Advice: regularly update both the software (controller) and the firmware of the AP.
The reason is that if you leave them on some old version, there is a possibility that at some point the system won't detect them (it happened to me), but as soon as everything was updated, everything worked perfectly again!

I bought it as a replacement for the AP AC Lite, hoping for better range on the 5 GHz frequency. I didn't see that. I also didn't see better signal range in the neighboring apartment. Otherwise, good overall range in a 90 sqm apartment and very stable operation with 10-12 connected devices, noticeable difference compared to the Speedport Plus. I generally recommend it, but for my own use, it wasn't worth the extra money compared to the AP AC Lite.

UPDATE

In the end, I decided to sell the AP AC LR as well, mainly out of curiosity, to try a mesh wifi solution, considering the possibility of sharing my connection with the neighboring apartment.

So, I bought a Google Nest Wifi with the prospect of buying a second one sometime later. The comparison I can make is as follows:

- In terms of ease of setup and operation, the GNW is far ahead of the EdgeRouter X - AP AC LR combination. It can do the basic and simple things, and so can my partner. On the other hand, it is minimally customizable. If someone wants/needs to set up their own QoS, secondary networks, etc., they should go for Ubiquity or a similar solution.

- I was surprised that the GNW has significantly better range on the 5 GHz network, to the point where I can't justify buying a second node :). I wondered why and researched it quite a bit. So, the Ubiquity APs don't have any impressive range because they are built with a different logic. They are intended for a home with structured wiring where *several APs* can be set up in different locations to provide coverage, and everything is connected via cables to the router. If someone is building a new home or has structured wiring in their current residence, Unifi is a better solution than mesh. If they have a home up to 45-50 sqm and want to connect multiple devices, they should also consider Unifi. However, if none of these apply, it's better to look into a mesh system.

- The GNW has more frequent issues than the Ubiquity system I had. Not something catastrophic (maybe once a month), but Ubiquity wins in terms of stability.
