Description

Description

The Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM is aimed at demanding computer users, such as gamers, professionals in video and image editing, designers, and those who require high performance from their computer.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and capacity.

It offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, latency (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 32GB per memory module.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the larger the size we choose, the better performance we will have in our system, while for latency (CL), we want the smallest size for the speed (MT/s) we have chosen.

The above characteristics should be compatible with the specifications of our motherboard.

The Ripjaws V provides a speed of 3200MT/s, with CL16 and 16GB per memory module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO

XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, is available on certain RAM memories, and is supported by certain motherboards.

The Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM has (XMP 2.0/EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/EXPO): 3200 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/EXPO): 16-18-18-38
  • Voltage (XMP/EXPO): 1.35V

Cooling & Design

The aluminum construction material combined with the memory height of 42mm, which is an ideal size to fit large CPU coolers, helps to keep the memory and the entire computer at a fairly low temperature even during the most demanding operations.

Purchased in December 2024, after 9 to 10 months one of the modules developed a problem. I ran memtest and it was faulty. Since it was a kit, I had to send both modules back. As a result, I was left without RAM and am using an old 8GB stick. I contacted them on the 22nd of the month. They received the return on the 26th and on the 30th they told me it would take 10 days for their technician to check and find the "best solution" for my problem. I wouldn't risk buying the same ones again. I will update with details regarding the "best solution."
Edit: The "best solution" after more than ten days was to refund my money. I had bought them for 60 euros and now they cost 107 euros. Amazing solution. I lost double the money and was without RAM for fifteen days. Thank you, Skroutz.

The packaging arrived damaged. It was wrapped three times with bubble wrap and then covered with the courier's plastic bag. It looks like something sharp or pointed fell on it... Externally, they don't seem to have any damage, and the memory chips look fine, and I want to believe they were protected by their coolers since the construction seems very good and sturdy! Unfortunately, I am still waiting for the motherboard and the processor because I have no other way to test the memory except through the operating system or through the motherboard. In general, however, every time I bought and worked with G.Skill, I never encountered any problems, and I am 100% satisfied! I will return when they are tested for any faults first and then functionally (if all goes well, otherwise, return)... 1 star for now because the system doesn't let me proceed without "astrology" :P. I won't give a rating yet for the obvious reasons mentioned above, only when they are tested...

It was installed in a desktop with a Ryzen 5 5600G. Plenty of space and good speed.

It is one of the most quality RAMs in terms of construction and materials, and that is the most important thing.

I don't play games, I program, and I have also worked on large projects in Unity. I needed more than 16 but never more than 26GB of RAM. Plenty of space.

Having experience with other frequencies of the same series, I didn't expect the difference between the 3200GHz and 3600GHz memory to be noticeable, but it is. It's not a disadvantage; they are excellent, I'm just mentioning it. I think for 3 euros more you can get the 3600GHz, and that would be beneficial.

It comes with factory settings at 2666 if I remember correctly - make sure to enable XMP/D.O.C.P. from the BIOS to go up to 3200.

Update - I have the first set of 32GB, 2 or 3 years old, I can't remember. They came factory set at 2133 if I remember correctly. I bought the exact same set just a month ago and made it 64GB. The second set is the one that synchronized at 2666 from the factory. I enabled DOCP in the BIOS (I installed the latest version, I have an Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming) and they went straight to 3200, all 4 of them.

The balls are rolling at 3200 and are unstoppable!

I have them for gaming and general use, 32 GB may be overkill but you put them in and don't have to worry about memory again.

Clearly a good value for money.

Installed on a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 (Rev. 1.3) motherboard with a Ryzen 7 5800X. Enabling XMP from the BIOS was easy and synced at 3200, but the system was unstable in the background. This became apparent when I tried to install games that consumed up to 13 GB of RAM during unpacking, and the ISDone.dll error always appeared. Disabling XMP allowed for successful installation. The solution was to use the AMD Master Utility to underclock to 3000Mhz with the XMP settings in the BIOS. With experimentation, one may be able to achieve more (the other solution is to go to 3200 by giving more volts). Generally, it is better to buy RAM that is on the QVL of the motherboard (and not the other way around, on the supported list of the RAM).

I installed them on B550 aorus master along with Ryzen 5 5600g. With XMP enabled in the BIOS, they run normally. If they run at a lower speed for you, check if XMP is enabled in the BIOS. For those who want to get it together with Ryzen 5 5600G (like I did), I would recommend getting some other memory with better speeds and/or lower latency because the integrated graphics give better performance with faster memory.

I installed 1 set of 2 X 32 = 64GB on a Gigabyte X570 AORUS Pro (rev. 1.0) motherboard with AMD Ryzen 9 5900X. They automatically clock at 2666 MHz. When set to XMP (3200 MHz), the computer does not boot, and after some time, the BIOS automatically disables the XMP profile and boots at 2666 MHz. They are not supported in the motherboard's "Memory Support List." So, be careful when purchasing to verify that the memory you are buying is supported by the motherboard because the advertised speeds are not the native ones but the XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles).

On the G.SKILL website, my motherboard is listed in the Qualified Vendors List (QVL) for this RAM. However, on the Gigabyte website, this specific RAM is not listed

I bought 2 sets, meaning 4x16=64GB. Of course, I bought them in the summer and they cost me about 220 euros for both sets. I had them on an Asus z390 Gaming-F with an Intel Core I5-9400f. They easily reached 3200 without any problems after enabling XMP (just one click, really). Incredible RAM overall, just without color, RGB, and such. Finally, I sold the motherboard and the processor and I'm waiting to try them on a Ryzen 7 2700x. I will return as soon as I test them.

Edit: 24/1/21. Initially, the RAM clocked at 3200Mhz with the Ryzen 7 2700x and Aorus B450 Pro rev 1.0 motherboard, but all the games crashed before loading properly. In the end, I set them to 3133Mhz without any issues.

Edit: 10/3/21. Finally, with a BIOS Update, the RAM clocked properly at 3200Mhz without any problems! RAM temperatures range from 31-33 degrees at most.

I paired it with an X570 Aorus Ultra and an R7 3800X. No stability issues, of course, and the 32GB will definitely cover most users. Personally, I didn't need to make any changes to the BIOS except for enabling the XMP/DOCP profile, which ran straight at 3200 MHz. Bonus points for the black heatsinks, as I'm not a big fan of RGB.

Since RAM is now quite expensive due to relatively low availability, most users will likely be fine with 16GB (2X8), but 3200-3600 MHz is the best speed choice, in my opinion, for ZEN 2 processors, as higher speeds won't give you much more benefit and are quite expensive.

I had exactly the same ones in 16gb (2x8) and although initially they worked at 3200 with the profile, after some bios upgrades they started giving bsod or the pc wouldn't boot.
As soon as I put the 32gb ones on, they worked perfectly at 3200...

They were installed on an Asrock B450 Gaming K4.
Used in a server machine type.
The motherboard does not support 3200 speed, but it didn't bother me.

They fit perfectly into the ASUS PRIME X-470pro motherboard with the RYZEN 5 3600 processor without any issues. They automatically synced to 3200MHz without any intervention from me. It is 2x16GB, totaling 32GB

I have installed them on an MSI B450 Pro Carbon AC and Ryzen 5 3600. The motherboard runs them at 3200 with XMP profile. Everything is good so far, maybe in the future I will try to push them a little faster in terms of speed.

    Ryzen 1600 & Asrock X370 Fatality
I had exactly the same ones in 16gb (2x8) and although initially they worked at 3200 with the profile, after some bios upgrades they started giving bsod or the pc wouldn't boot.
As soon as I put the 32gb ones on, they worked perfectly at 3200...
Strange indeed, but a pleasant surprise.

  • Purchased in December 2024, after 9 to 10 months one of the modules developed a problem.
