Description

The "Modern Grammar of the French Language", published in collaboration with the French publishing house Hachette, offers a handbook to those learning French as a foreign language that helps in the acquisition of correct language usage, both oral and written.

The book has been internationally established for decades as one of the most user-friendly and systematic presentations of French grammar and is aimed at all those learning French and have completed the first year of studies (levels A2 - C2). The Greek edition follows the most recent updated and enriched French edition and aims to further assist the Greek-speaking reader, providing reliable and scientifically valid translation of terminology.

Aiming for maximum clarity, this book:
- organizes the material from the simplest and basic chapters to the most complex
- provides descriptions and explanations for various phenomena using the simplest possible language
- presents hundreds of linguistic examples with everyday life as a reference frame
- focuses particularly on semantic differentiations and subtle nuances of speech resulting from grammatical choices, such as the use of one or the other declension, the use of this or that article, etc.
- includes summary tables of specific points or issues
- includes, in the margin of the main text, a series of special frames (with indications such as "Note", "Attention", "Do not say", etc.) that offer additional information, explain less common structures, warn the reader about possible errors in language usage, etc.

The detailed appendices at the end of the book include:
- verb conjugation tables
- index of terms, French expressions, etc.
- list of verb constructions with which non-French speakers encounter significant difficulties
- sections on ellipsis, accent types, and punctuation
- table with the international phonetic alphabet.

  • Comprehensive, systematic, well-written. It highlights and addresses common mistakes - something particularly useful. Its visual presentation could be more appealing... WARNING, it is not suitable for beginners (A1), as it does not translate the examples.

Recommended mainly for university departments. However, it is completely incomprehensible for beginners, as it does not provide explanations, it simply gives sterile information.
