Description

From the battle of Solferino, to the war against terrorism and the International Criminal Court... A new handbook on international humanitarian law. A synthetic account of both the fundamental principles of international law applicable during armed conflicts or occupations, as well as the main challenges following September 11 (or November 13) from the war against terrorism.

With special references to international criminal justice and the alternative enforcement mechanisms available to the international community (United Nations, Criminal Courts, and national courts, through the exercise of universal jurisdiction).

Product of twenty years of experience in teaching and researching international law of armed conflicts, in theory and practice, in peace and during war, with audiences including students as well as military personnel, members of multinational corporations, and officials of the Red Cross or other NGOs, in Greece and abroad, the book seeks to provide answers in an era when the world appears much more dangerous and harsh than it did 20 years ago, when I tentatively started this journey.
