The purpose of this book is to present how we are challenged to shape the future of technology in education. How we respond to this challenge is determined by how we see it helping us fulfill our vision of what teaching and learning should be.
Our approach to achieving this purpose is based on four principles:
1. Methods of integrating technology should be based both on learning theories and pedagogical practices.
2. The uses of technology should be matched with specific teaching and learning needs.
3. Old integration strategies are not necessarily bad, and new strategies are not necessarily good.
4. A combination of technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge is essential.
The goal of this publication is for educators to see more clearly their role in shaping the future of technology in education. This book explains that great education means leveraging technology to fulfill the vision that these tools enable: a global social network and a global community that learns and grows together.
