Fear is worse than punishment. Small or large, punishment is always better than the uncertainty, the endlessness of fear.

Irene, a young woman, married, has a young pianist as her lover. Every time she leaves her lover's house, she tells herself that it is the last time. She does not want to risk her family life, her safe home, her two children, nor lose her husband, who is devoted to her.

The last time she leaves her lover's house, at the front door, she is faced with danger, her life changes, and she is led down a dark path with an unexpected ending.
