Description

Description

A new era in standard zoom performance.

Uncompromising design and technology in a new zoom lens with a constant F2.8, which can fully leverage the performance capabilities offered by both existing and future high-resolution camera bodies.

Excellent resolution and background defocus (bokeh)

The XA (extreme aspherical) lens element with top surface precision not only contributes to impressive resolution and detail across the entire frame and throughout the zoom range, but also plays an extremely important role in achieving smooth, gentle background defocusing (bokeh), which can be a powerful expressive tool in a wide range of shooting conditions.

Natural performance and color

An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) element and a Super ED glass element in an optical path designed to the highest standards contribute to achieving realistic, natural images without unnatural colors, maintaining control over axial and lateral chromatic aberration, while also maximizing subject resolution for impressive texture and detail.

Bright, fast F2.8 at any focal length

The constant maximum aperture of F2.8 makes it easier to maintain stable exposure settings throughout the zoom range, continuously offering the ability to shoot in low light or at very high shutter speeds. Consistently impressive image quality is ensured at any aperture or focal length.

Precise focus at amazing speed

Apart from mounting large-aperture lenses with extremely high precision for accurate focusing, the Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) system minimizes missed movements, while the advanced control system and improved algorithms enhance the speed of AF operation. The use of the DDSSM system is also smooth and silent, making it ideal for movies and photos.

The 9-blade aperture enhances the stunning appearance of background defocus (bokeh)

The stunning beauty of the background defocus (bokeh) of this lens is further enhanced by the 9-blade circular aperture design, which contributes to smoothness as well as natural bright shades.

Impressive Clarity and Contrast

Sony's exclusive Nano AR Coating reduces reflections that can cause flare and ghosting, especially in backlit conditions. The result is consistently high contrast and clarity with deep blacks across the widest possible range of shooting conditions. (1. Nano AR Coating / 2. Glass / 3. Transmitted light)

Flexible focus control at your fingertips

The ability to quickly react to rapidly changing shooting conditions can make the difference between capturing the photo or not. The manual/auto focus switch and the focus hold button are placed in easily accessible locations, providing flexible, professional control over a wide range of subjects and conditions.

Zoom lock improves portability

Zoom lenses can sometimes extend due to their weight during transport. This can be annoying while also increasing the likelihood of accidental damage. The zoom lock switch provides a simple, secure way to lock the zoom mechanism for safe and comfortable transport.

Lock and Release Cover

The cover lock mechanism prevents accidental removal of the cover during transport, while the cover release button facilitates the removal and reattachment of the cover when necessary.

Absolute reliability in tough conditions

Careful sealing measures against dust and moisture have been applied to ensure maximum protection and reliability in difficult conditions. Shoot with confidence in light rain or wind.

Amazing lens. I use it for video and photography. Very sharp, accurate colors, and although I mostly use manual focus for video, when I need autofocus it is very fast and reliable. Yes, it is an expensive lens, but it is more than worth the money. The only negative, which I would expect at this price, is that I would like the zoom to be internal, because now its size gets a bit out of hand when you are at 70mm. I believe it is Sony's best overall lens.

    Excellent lens!!!
I use it for videos with the Sony a7s iii.
Incredible colors, autofocus along with the AF of the a7s iii is fantastic, it is a fairly sharp lens, not as sharp as the Sony GM lenses like the 135mm f/1.8 or the 70-200mm f/2.8...
    But small differences.
Quite heavy lens and I would like the zoom ring to be smoother.
It has vignetting which I like, the distortion is not at all bothersome... Expected at 24mm anyway.
Because it is not a prime lens... And no chromatic aberration at all...

Is it worth the money?? YES

    Very expensive, aimed at professionals...
In general, there are more economical solutions like the Sigma and even better the Tamron 28-70mm
