I have bought 2 of the 2TB ones and I have had them for almost 5 years. One of them has photos, videos, songs, movies inside and it is permanently connected to the TV. The second one has the same content but it is kept in the drawer as a backup in case the first one breaks. No complaints so far. The reason I am leaving a review is because of Seagate's service. I want to recover some things that I deleted a year ago. Through chat, they sent me a program after 10 minutes, which is normally paid, with free codes for a month to perform the recovery, as well as videos on how to do it. After this experience, I will stick with maxtor-seagate forever.

The disk lasted for 2.5 years. External on PS4 and PS5, unfortunately one day it suddenly stopped and the head got stuck. Stay away from this particular disk.

I put it twice in the 2nd one and it started playing with a free tb. I only had it for backup every six months, a big mess to see how I will transfer one tb back from the 2tb. Dammit...

I bought the disk on offer for 35€ for 2TB. Overall, its construction is not very durable, so if it falls, it will shatter even from a very low height. A couple of times when I was doing demanding work, it crashed and blocked the files being transferred within the disk. I definitely do not recommend it as a primary disk and it is definitely not worth 78€. For the 35€ that I got it for and the use I make of it, which is backing up trivial stuff and simple transfer, it is good.

It broke twice within the -supposed- warranty. The first time, three months after purchase and only used to see if it works! It was replaced and broke again shortly before two years from the initial purchase. However, this time it had important files inside and I had to open it myself and save what I could... Never again!

I have this disc permanently on my PC, at first it was doing various things, meaning it was reading it and then it would disappear and I had to take it out and put it back in. When it finally got fixed, it worked without any problems, although occasionally it does it again

I have had it for two years and it does what it promises without any problems. Its construction may not be the most durable and one downside is that it does not have "feet" to prevent slipping. Apart from these, the disk has not disappointed me.

One useful piece of information that will definitely extend the life of your hard drives (unless they are defective from the beginning) is to be very careful with vibrations on HDD disks. Gentle movements and avoiding vibrations will allow the hard drive to keep you company for more years.

4 stars for the materials it is made of, it performs well, copies very quickly, and is very worth it. I have almost filled it up and it still doesn't feel full.
Update after 3-4 years: Its copying performance has decreased, it can take up to 2 hours for a simple update. Mainly on ps4

I don't know what opinion the disk left you, I have had it for several months and it works perfectly. Quiet, relatively fast for its size. Cheap for its features. With a little care, it will last you a long time. Of course, if it falls down, you cry. However, it does its job if you take care of it... and another good thing it has is the 3-year warranty. So, if something happens, you are covered.

Purchased on 23/01/2018 from a big chain. In the past few days, the disk is making a "knocking" sound inside, sometimes it recognizes it, sometimes it doesn't. Now I'm trying to save whatever files I can, and the copying process is eternal. For me, it's not worth its money. With 10 euros less, you can get a more reliable brand of external hard drive.

Most of the times, especially when it comes to transferring large files, several GB for example, the transfer speed seems to drop to zero for a few seconds... about 4-5 approximately... I believe this happens in order to prevent the disk from overheating, given its size, 2.5 inches, as well as the fact that it is mechanical and not SSD.

Stopped working after two days of light use. Initially, it kept disconnecting constantly until it stopped being recognized by the computer. (Other hard drives are recognized normally). Such a waste of money and time. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can return it. Disgraceful. (And my previous hard drive was Seagate - as people from data recovery told me, Seagate is the worst! And this Maxtor is actually Seagate - that's how it appeared on the computer).

The hard drive does not have a smaller capacity. Reference: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/172191en. In other words, they are the same TB but calculated differently. One is Base 10 and the other is Base 2. This difference exists in all hard drive manufacturers, of course!

Small, elegant, and easy to install, both in the system and in the space. I got it for my PS4 and it is equally fast if not faster than the default internal HDD of the PS4. I have filled it up over 60% of its capacity and it runs like the first day. The USB cable is short in length but it doesn't bother me since I have it next to the PS4. The build material is plastic but it doesn't bother me either since I didn't buy it to do a durability test. I highly recommend it to you without reservation.

In a laptop with USB 3.0, SSD & i5, I see 110MB/s (880 Mbps) write speed and 130MB/s (1040 Mbps) read speed. If I enable the Performance Policy, it goes up to ~380MB/s (3040 Mbps), but it's the caching on the laptop's SSD. Overall, it is quite fast. It is very lightweight and has a very good build quality. The computer recognizes it as Seagate M3 and the accompanying software is Seagate (Drive Manager).

    UPDATE 01/09/2019

I still have the same opinion! The drive is fantastic!

It was purchased 1-1.5 years ago for data storage and it is still alive.

Calculate 1.81Tb actual space with default format in NTFS.

For its price (around 70-75 euros), it is great. It doesn't heat up, it is not noisy, and it is as "fast" as other 2.5" 5400rpm drives in the same category (the USB3 protocol is not the bottleneck).

    Update 23/12/2020
4 years later, I still occasionally use it for new backups and retrieving old ones, and it hasn't presented any problems. I generally take care of it, it hasn't fallen down, and whenever I travel, I keep it in its case/box.

    --- 30/12/2016
The disk is essentially Seagate (logical after the acquisition) and is recognized as such. It includes software which I haven't tried, so I don't have an opinion. For backup, I use Macrium Reflect Free, with which on USB 2.0 I had a max of 330Mbps and an average of ~210Mbps for a 420GB image (~4 hours). In simple transfer to a low-end laptop with USB 3.0, the maximum was ~900Mbps. Its plastics appear well-made and it is quite lightweight. Completely silent and with normal temperatures. I will come back if and when reliability issues arise.

For now, I have received the backpack and it simply sits in my laptop bag. It looks good aesthetically, and the case seems durable.

Maybe I will come back in the future to tell you about its durability over time.

I have had it for less than a year and I believe it is worth the money, and so far I have not noticed any problems. Of course, I do not have it for transportation, just as a second external backup drive, so I have only used it a few times.

Fast and quiet, although it doesn't seem to be resistant to falls. I have been using it since January. Very useful the USB 3.0 it has. It is small and convenient in size. It would be good to also purchase a protective case.

For the money you give, I believe it's worth someone to buy this specific disc, I have it for several months now and it doesn't create any problem for me.

Very good, fast, and reliable, but not compatible with the PlayStation 4, so I had to buy a WD one for expansion.

  • I have bought 2 of the 2TB ones and I have had them for almost 5 years.

  • The disk lasted for 2.5 years. External on PS4 and PS5, unfortunately one day it suddenly stopped and the head got stuck. Stay away from this particular disk.

  • I put it twice in the 2nd one and it started playing with a free tb. I only had it for backup every six months, a big mess to see how I will transfer one tb back from the 2tb. Dammit...
