The decision for this tribute was made easily and quickly on that black Monday of this year's January, but not without difficulties. After all, it wouldn't be fitting for David Bowie to have a Sonik that reproduced the same stories about the "Berlin Trilogy", Ziggy, the Thin White Duke, and the other personas of the great Brit. You know all these things, you can easily find them on the internet, you have heard them recently to the point of saturation.
So we let the discography retell the points of these stories that made sense as the background of Bowie's work in each period, which we made comprehensive, knowing firsthand how much music lovers love to read about albums. And we focused the rest of the issue on important but usually overlooked aspects of the Duke's diverse journey, from swinging' 1960s London to the 2016 Blackstar.
We examined his relationship with the audience of our country, from the years of Giannis Petridis' "Pop Club" to this year's historic front page of the Newspaper of the Editors.
We placed his contribution in the broader spirit of androgyny in the 1970s, we carefully looked at his fashion in each era, we remembered the boys and girls of his life and the guitarists who stood by his side, we analyzed his lyrics and the various stages he went through philosophically, sometimes leading to bad, dark statements. We anthologized his quiet, parallel career in cinema and looked at who he covered, who covered him, and which hip-hop stars sampled him.
