Its purpose is to help the reader acquire solid basic knowledge about the main thematic circles of Byzantine Musicology in a pleasant way and in a short period of time. In order for the edition to be accessible to as many interested parties as possible, its study does not require knowledge of Byzantine notation.

However, it includes not only the poetic texts but also the musical texts of the pieces presented. The content of the book is distributed among the following thematic circles, inviting readers to a combined study: 1. Byzantine culture. 2. Byzantine musicology. 3. The spatial-temporal context of Greek ecclesiastical music. 4. Elements of hymnology. 5. Music theory in Byzantium, the octoechos, and Byzantine notation. 6. Byzantine, post-Byzantine, and modern ecclesiastical composition. 7. About the secular music of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period. The edition includes various auxiliary elements for utilization by the student for combined study, depending on their level of training: A' Summaries. B' Selection of sources.
