Description

The Archer VR600 of TP-LINK is a mobile router, a device that connects other devices (e.g. computer, mobile, television) wirelessly, and shares internet access. It receives internet access through the integrated modem and uses the mobile network by installing a SIM card. The SIM card needs to have an active data connection.

It supports VDSL2, which is the most modern internet connection technology. It offers higher data download and upload speeds compared to ADSL2+ (usually up to 50Mbps and 5Mbps) that can support triple play services (television, telephone, internet). It requires a corresponding connection technology from the provider.
It is Wi-Fi 5 generation, the most widespread Wi-Fi standard, which can meet the needs of most users currently. There is now also the next generation Wi-Fi 6 which offers the ability to connect many more devices to serve the increasingly growing smart devices in a home. It emits a signal at two frequencies, 2.4 & 5GHz. It offers higher speeds compared to single band and can connect more devices. The 2.4Ghz frequency is the most widespread and has a long range. The 5Ghz provides higher speeds than 2.4Ghz but is more sensitive to obstacles (e.g. walls) that reduce its range. This difference, as well as its more limited use, helps to have fewer interferences from other networks.

The device has the ability to configure a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so that traffic from all devices on our network passes through it. The VPN acts as an intermediary between us and the rest of the internet, giving us the ability to appear geographically in another country and the pages we visit see the VPN address as the visitor's address instead of our own. This provides us with anonymity and access to content with geographic restrictions. VPN services are usually paid with a subscription.

Additionally, the NAT firewall hides the addresses of all devices on your local network behind a single address, increasing security. With MAC address filtering, it allows specific devices to connect based on their unique MAC address, excluding any device with a MAC address that has not been defined as acceptable. It offers WPA2 security, a protocol that replaced WPA in 2004 and uses AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology approved by the US government for classified documents. WPA2-Enterprise is intended for corporate use and provides increased security compared to WPA2-Personal.

Simply the best value for money. I have had it since September and it saved me from the crappy routers provided by the ISPs. I have Vodafone at home and they had given me a rotten ZTE router that would constantly freeze with more than 4 devices connected to the wifi and required constant restarts. Not to mention that I couldn't stream wired content in 1080p on my TV through the Plex server. It was driving me crazy with all the buffering. But all of that is in the past with the tp-link. Now I have my TV, PS4, Chromecast 2 (wifi), Xtreamer mplayer, Mac mini, 2 laptops (wifi), 2 tablets (wifi), and 3 smartphones (wifi) connected to it and it doesn't even notice. It even streams 4K flawlessly. I highly recommend it 100%.

The switch it has for WiFi on/off only works for on. No matter how many times I press it, no matter how long I hold it down, it doesn't turn off the WiFi. I have to go to the router's page every time I want to turn it off and disable it from there... This disappointed me because one of the first things I was looking for when searching for a router was to have an on/off switch for WiFi...

Installation in less than 5 minutes
Stable on both the 5 and 2.4 band with slightly better range than the mama ZTE from Forthnet
Wherever there is even one signal line, you can surf normally
Solved the chronic problem of continuous disconnections from the mama modem, it speeds up and synchronizes 1.5-2 mbps higher
Connected to 2-3 mobile phones, 1 tablet, 1 laptop, 1 TV box for seamless HD movie streaming
Worth every penny (at least for connection to the Forthnet network)

Good tool. Works as intended. Easy installation, powerful menu/settings, nice speeds... everything is great, just a bit pricey. If you're not interested in the 1600mbps wifi, you can check out the corresponding VR200 which has 750mbps, meaning it still has fast wifi but it's also 40€ cheaper.

    Update 22/02/2018
The tool is simply amazing. That's it.

It is a tool. Whatever the reviews say is all true, I won't repeat it.
It's worth its money. When I bought it, I thought I was paying a lot, but now that I have it and I use it with 2 bands and 5 devices connected and it doesn't lag at all, I'm very happy that I bought it.
It replaces the Mamisio Forthnet, it doesn't reach faster speeds, maybe a little bit more in upload, but it never loses connection.
One year later, it still works perfectly. With VDSL Forthnet, it synchronizes at 45/5, with no settings required.

Flawless on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, but the second one is amazing! Great range, you can use both of them together if someone wants to connect to one and another person has the capability for 5 GHz on the other. I did a lot of research after my ZTE router gave me a lot of trouble with my 50 Mbps VDSL. I easily installed the VR600 and now I can relax.

  • With closed eyes! 3 wireless devices in online gaming and it didn't cut off or freeze. I always had an issue with the internet...not anymore
