Description & Specifications

Published for the first time in 1970, nine years after the death of Ernest Hemingway, the Caribbean Islands tells the story of an artist and adventurer – a man who closely resembles the author himself.

Beginning in the 1930s, the novel follows the life of Thomas Hudson, describing both his experiences as a painter on the island of Bimini in the "Gulf Stream," as well as his actions against submarines off the coast of Cuba during World War II.

However, most of the book takes place in a bar in Havana, where a series of unforgettable characters – including an aging prostitute who is one of the author's most vivid creations – engage in delightful dialogues.

In this exotic, seductive story, Ernest Hemingway is at the peak of his literary maturity. He contributed more than any other author of the twentieth century to the stylistic change of Anglo-Saxon prose, and for this work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
