Description

Chef Nikos Fotiadis, starting from some of the most famous "culinary" rebetiko and traditional songs, gathers in the Musical Perimeter delicious Greek recipes inspired by our musical tradition.

He kneads the soft bread along with Markos Vamvakaris' white little baguette; he sets up a pot for kakavia with the companionship of Giannis Papaioannou and Charalambos Vasiliadis; he prepares the lamb with spinach that the butcher sends to sweeten the lively widow Eleni of Giovannis Tsau; he flambes the cheerful rooster of Vasilis Tsitsanis with wine; he prepares syrupy tulumbas to the rhythm of "Tombourlika" by Panagiotis Toundas.

The Musical Perimeter is not just a simple cookbook. The first performances of the songs presented, their lyrics, as well as the circumstances that gave birth to them, have been recorded with the utmost care and are complemented by rich illustrative material.

The musical aspect of the book is presented not only as original but also… enhanced: The book is accompanied by a CD featuring selected songs in contemporary re-interpretations by Giannis Kotsiras, Babis Tsertos, Nadia Karagianni, Panos Rentis, Giota Liapopoulou, the groups "Rebetien" and "Rombia" etc., to fully convey to the reader the atmosphere that inspires it.

Finally, the songs "Ah fasolada," with lyrics by the exiles of Ai-Stratis, and "El Damba," with lyrics from the exiles of the El Damba camp, are recorded for the first time, especially for this edition.

In the Musical Perimeter, cooking meets the musical art and folklore in a triply enjoyable journey.

Repertoire selection: Nikos Fotiadis, CD editing: Vaggelis Machaeras
