Can Mira save a world she never truly knew? Sixteen years ago, the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, left without magic or a monarch. Now, the only hope for the Winterfolk's freedom lies with the eight survivors who managed to escape and have been waiting ever since for the chance to reclaim Winter's magic and restore the kingdom.
Having been orphaned as an infant during Winter's defeat, Mira has lived her entire life as a refugee, raised by the Winter general, Lord. As she trains to become a warrior—and being desperately in love with her best friend and future king, Mather—she would give anything to help her kingdom rise to power once more.
So when some trackers discover the location of the ancient pendant that can restore Winter's magic, Mira decides to go find it herself. She ends up scaling towers, battling enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she always dreamed she would.
But the mission does not go as planned, and soon Mira finds herself immersed in a world of malevolent magic and dangerous politics, ultimately realizing that her fate is not, and never was, her own. Sara Raasch's debut in Fantasy is a fast-paced tale of faith, love, and the pursuit of destiny.
